The influence of lunar phases on wine bottling.
The connection between the moon and viticulture is a fascinating topic rooted in the agricultural traditions of many cultures. The moon, always revered and symbolizing natural cycles, also plays an important role in winemaking by influencing the ideal time for bottling.
New Moon (Black Moon)
During the new moon, it is advised against bottling or transferring wine. This period is considered less favorable because the moon’s energies are at their minimum and could negatively affect the quality of the product.
Waxing Moon (Western Hump)
During the waxing moon, especially in the spring months, it is recommended to bottle sparkling wines. During this period, the moon stimulates activity and fermentation, promoting the creation of lively bubbles.
Full Moon
Full moon days are considered the best for bottling all types of wine. The moon, in this phase, is at its peak power, and it is believed to positively influence the stability and preservation of the wine.
Waning Moon (Eastern Hump)
The waning moon is the ideal time to bottle wines destined for aging. During this phase, the moon exerts a force that helps stabilize the wine, preparing it for long-term maturation.
Bottling Tips
- The months of March, April, and May are ideal for bottling wines intended for young consumption.
